Here we go!

We knew the nice weather was not going to last forever, but that's okay. There are enough things happening from now until Spring that none of us will even notice a few short months of cooler weather. Right? RIGHT?!?

There is a lot coming up for all of us at DakotAbilities and you are invited to jump in and join us any time you would like. After all, you are the reason life is so great at DakotAbilities!

A Royal Visit

Last Monday we had a special presentation by Jr. Miss Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe, Avayah Weston. She received her title last July and although she is only 12 years old, she has been dancing for at least 10 years. Avayah was dressed in Fancy Dance and wowed the crowd with her dance skills as well as her beautiful Native American clothing.

We are honored to be the recipient of this year's Downtown coupon book. All sales of the book will go to DakotAbilities (Last year's recipient received over $7,000!). The coupon books are available at the 33 participating merchants or at Longfellow Center. The cost is only $15 so plan save money while doing your holiday shopping. The coupon book will be sold until December 31. Register and you will be part of a drawing for a $100 gift card for Duluth Trading Company.

We all know Thanksgiving is more than a meal. It goes without saying that the whole point of the meal is to get to the Wishbone Challenge after all of the dishes are done. We are now going to divulge the secret of a guaranteed win of this ancient method of obtaining life-fulfilling wishes. After 54 years, we know for a fact that to be on the receiving end of the winning wishbone side involves inviting you to take the challenge with us. Every year you make dreams and wishes come true for the people served by DakotAbilities. You have never failed us. And as what happens with blessings, our partnership mysteriously benefits everyone. This month is the perfect time to say to you, "Thanks for giving!"

Our wish is that your holiday is bountiful with blessings!

For the first time, DakotAbilities is having a float in the Parade of Lights November 29! The theme of the float will be Wizard of Oz. Several people we serve and staff are hard at work to make it prize worthy.

The 2nd annual SDGives will be Tuesday, December 3rd. It is a one-day event for South Dakota nonprofits to raise as much as possible in 24 hours. Throughout the day there will be contests for the nonprofits to win even more money. Last year DakotAbilities raised over $12,000! Already this year, several board members have pledged matching gifts to guarantee its success. You will receive reminders leading up to the day that highlights our state's philanthropic spirit.

Estate Planning Seminar

This poor woman has been trying to make sense of her options as she plans her estate. Can you relate to her blank stare? If so, help is on the way! DakotAbilities is hosting an estate planning seminar. Professionals will present information for you to protect your loved ones while creating a legacy. Join us!

Longfellow Center
Thursday, December 12th

There is no charge and it will include a light dinner. Please let us know you want to attend before November 28.
