We're talking to you!

We asked for handmade and surgical facial masks for staff to keep the people we serve safe. You delivered dozens. We asked for iPads so people in all the homes could stay in touch with their families and friends. You provided them. We asked for help to cover the unexpected expenses of cleaning supplies and sanitizers. You sent donations. We are, quite frankly, overwhelmed by your generosity. After all, no one is untouched by our current events and yet you stepped up. Your good works, your good will, and your goodness are paying off. As of this message, not one person supported by DakotAbilities has contracted COVID-19.

Thank you. The following smiles and good times are brought to you by, well, you!

Making snacks has become a national past time. That is not quite accurate. The truth is that eating snacks has become a national past time. Keith is mixing up a batch of cookies to share with his housemates.

Char tried a new recipe for Ranch Snack Crackers. Apparently the process of shaking a baggie filled with spices and crackers triggers hilarity for her. She has mastered the joy of cooking.

Virgil has mastered the art of keeping in touch. It is easy now with our new iPads for every home. But they are also being used for meetings, cooking, and all sorts of games. We are having remote scavenger hunts, thrilling matches of I Spy, cutthroat bowling, sessions with Jesus Cares and hangman.

Technology is great but so are a ball and a chunk of chalk. Kevin and Mark can find enjoyment with whatever is on hand. Mark even designed an original rug using stencils and inspired a staff member to make one at her home.

Team Spirit, Let's See It!

All staff must wear masks at all time in all of the homes for everyone's health and safety. Denny and Trevor offer their solidarity.

Our hope is that every person supported by DakotAbilities will remember these Days of Isolation as fun times not fearful times. Thanks to our amazing Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) as well as our nursing staff, we think that hope will be a reality. Maybe they will remember it as if they went away to camp for a long time. S'mores anyone?
