With a spin on the old adage bloom where you are planted, we are letting you know how proud we are of our gardens. We want vegetables, so we planted them. We want beautiful flowers, so we planted them. It all happened with a lot of help (and fun) from our friends.
Erik and Natalie are Shirley's planting partners for the third year in a row.
For the second year Valerie with Grand Prairie Foods and her crew brought and planted flowers on the north side of Longfellow Center. You are welcome to take a stroll around the building to see all of our community gardens.
We were honored to have KDLT come to Longfellow Center for an interview about our gardens. If you missed it or want to watch it again, click here.
Golf Was A Hole-in-One for More Accessible Lives
June 10 was a day of perfect weather and great golfing at our 12th Annual Golf Classic at Willow Run. Thirty-two teams participated and vied for a variety of prizes. The real winners were the people served by DakotAbilities. Every year the proceeds goes to our Accessibility Fund that provides funding for adaptive and assistive devices as well as accessible vans. All items make it possible for each person to live their life as independently as possible.
Below is the team from VanDeWalle Architects.
It's Ready for Residents!
Our newest home will have people moving in during July. The home was made possible by your generosity as well as other individuals, businesses, and granters. We held a contest to name the new house and the choice was an easy one. It has been named for Lauren and LaDonna Christensen. Lauren and LaDonna are the reason we have the River Camp at Trent. They are friends with everyone at DakotAbilities and have provided for us in their estate plan. Lauren is a past board member and has been generous to us for years. It is only fitting that we honor two of the people who have done so much for the people we serve.
We are celebrating with an open house on TUESDAY, JUNE 25TH from 4:30 - 6:00pm. The home is located at 512 E 18th Street, just a block north of Longfellow Center.
